Write it out: Trent Plaisted

I've been thinking a bit about Trent Plaisted's decision to enter the NBA draft later this month, and I wanted to put this topic out on the discussion floor.

I want to know what you readers think. It seems like a simple issue, but consider the following:
The reports out of the combine pretty much say the same thing we've known for years: Trent Plaisted is an athletic big man who runs the floor well, but lacks aggressiveness around the rim and a tough inside presence. He's also a horrible FT shooter.

So my question to you guys, then, is this:

Why did Trent Plaisted enter the NBA draft, especially since he has no guarantee of getting picked in the first round?

Is he just sick of BYU? Does he truly feel like he'll break into the first round and the guaranteed money that brings? Is it purely ego?

This is your turn now, and I want thoughtful answers people! And you people who have been reading and not commenting? It's time to step up to the plate and say something. Write it out.

I agree completely. Maybe he is entering because he is married, and a baby is on the way?!

I think that Trent suffers from what all athletes(including amateurs such as myself or even Adam)suffer from. That is that he thinks he is better than anyone else thinks he is. It is hard for some, and athletes especially, to objectively rate their strengths and weaknesses. It is too bad that this has caused him to enter the draft early. I hope for his sake and the sake of his family that he is not disappointed in his decision, but I think that he will be.

The only other reason I can think of is that he is either tired of school (not that athletes have it any harder than the rest of us) and doesn't want to continue in grad school, or he is tired of playing in the MWC. I could understand either of these reasons.

I think that Trent understands that he will not play in the NBA and just wants to get the money the 3 year contract will get him and then go work in a cell phone shack on the corner of University and State.

To me, TP not coming back for another year lets me know he's going to wash out of the NBA within a year or two. If he really wanted to hang around in the NBA, he'd come back, develop some new moves, work on being more aggressive, increase his stock greatly, and then enter the draft. But he's just running for the money. He's not concerned with getting better. Just getting paid. Now I can't say that I blame him, because I'd probably want to get paid too. But refusing to see how much better he could be is short-sighted and makes believe he'll have a short-lived career as well.

If he had any of the heart of Ross Mitchell or any of the fire of Russ Nelson, he'd be a lottery pick.

I hesitate to comment only because I know that my chances of getting racked is slim to none.

Trent knows that no matter what he does his stock is not getting any higher. He might as well get into the draft while their is still the opportunity for scouts and teams to feel like he could have some upside. If he plays at BYU next year he will only solidify what everyone knows - which is that Trent is a curly haired version of Hafa.

Goodnight now!

Plaisted will end up sitting the bench on some European team collecting a fair paycheck!

Forget Plaisted. I'm looking forward to Chris Miles. I want to watch a center that isn't afraid to get his hands dirty playing tough basketball, nor bounce a dribble off his foot.

Only players as good as Ginobili can get away with being so dominant with one hand. But even Ginobili can move to his right and score every now and then... Plaisted even being considered for the draft is an over-rating.

Maybe Trent can play in Europe for a while and then get "drafted" by some eastern European country's Olympic team.
