I'm officially down with the madness, everybody. Did you guys see the games yesterday?
BYU started the show by downing the pesky Air Force Falcons in one of the most frustrating games I've ever had to watch. I hate the Falcons. Their run-out-the-clock-on-every-possession offense drives me bonkers. As does their hustle. Why can't they just lay over and die like everyone else?
Thankfully, BYU put them away. And the good news is they probably got a good prep for the rest of the tournament.
Then SDSU did everyone in the conference a big favor by taking down the home town heroes, the UNLV Rebels. The Aztec win shocked and delighted me. SDSU will now face BYU tonight, which makes me a little nervous. But at least we won't have to deal with UNLV.
And now, because I hate UNLV, I'm hoping big time that the Rebels miss the NCAA tournament. I would love that.
Later in the tournament, Utah beat TCU on a game-winning three pointer by Lawrence Bohra with .8 second left.
Then in the late game, Wyoming upset the New Mexico Lobos to advance to the semifinals. Sidenote: I was watching this game and I had to laugh at Wyoming's players. They basically fall into three categories: Inner city black kids (Brandon Ewing), imports from Black Africa (Afam Muojeke), and backwoods Wyoming rednecks (I don't remember his name... the big ugly white kid). Funny.
I actually like Wyoming basketball. I hope they can keep the magic rolling and beat the Utes. Partially because I hate the Utes, and partially because I would LOVE to face Wyoming in the championship game.
...assuming we beat SDSU.
Anyway, great games in the MWC tournament yesterday. Here are the semifinals matchups:
SDSU vs. BYU, 7 p.m. (MT)
Wyoming vs. Utah, 9:30 p.m. (MT)
Also... did anyone else see that Syracuse/UConn game yesterday/this morning? The thing went into SIX OVERTIMES. It lasted until 1:30 a.m. (Eastern Time). I was thoroughly entertained by the players in that last overtime. By that time all the good players had fouled out, and both teams were playing towel boys and contest winners. It was awesome.
Bring on the madness, I say!
